Project Preparation PDF

What you need to know before you talk to us

Preparation is key to the successful management of any project, and web or print projects are no different. The more preparation both client and designer do right from the start, the more smoothly the work will go.

We think checklists are very useful, so we’ve prepared a list of 5 items that clients should provide their designer at the outset. This list ensures that client and designer create the most efficient work flow.

1. Budget

Knowing your budget allows us to establish what you will be able to realistically achieve. This saves time when preparing quotations and proposals.

2. A clear outline of why the design work is necessary and what you expect to achieve

Whether it’s a print campaign, posters for a conference stall or a website development project, every design and development job involves a goal to be fulfilled. Consider precisely what your objective is when preparing to meet with us.

3. An outline of YOUR target market or audiencE

This very important information guides us in all aspects of the work we do. An advertisement or poster aimed at teenage boys will look very different to one designed to catch the attention of their parents. Look at a well-designed promotional campaign and you will easily be able to tell whom it was designed for. A client with a detailed understanding of their target market will get the design which best suits their needs.

4. Samples of previous design work (where applicable)

If you have a seasonal marketing campaign, or your corporate identity needs to be revised, it can be helpful for us to see past design samples. We'll discuss what worked or did not work for the you the last time, particularly in terms of customer response and the direction which the you have in mind for future. And if you are impressed by other promotional products you've seen in your industry, feel free to include this in any preparation work.

5. deadlines

Even if the work isn’t urgent, a deadline is important for effective time management. Unless the scale of the design work is exceptionally small, it can be very useful for us to negotiate a series of deadline stages for the work.
